Trip to Richmix
The trip to Richmix in Shoreditch turned out to be quite inspiring when thinking about continuing within the media industry; talks from Corin Hardy and Liz Kessler were very interesting alongside the visual aids of the videos they directed/produced for some very well known artists including Olly Murs ft (RIZZLE KICKS), The Horrors, Britney Spears and The Progidy. Chief Examiner Pete Fraser also gave us an insight into the history of music videos and it's progress from times as early as the artistic videos of Len Lye to 50 cent and the differences in how times have changed regarding the acceptance of sexualised videos and black artisits.
Here is a slide provided by Pete of which we have used as guidance during the trip to Richmix:

Audience Positioning
Stuart Hall developed the concept of audience positioning as a result of examining news reports on industrial strikes; He claimed that media representations established a framework for possible responses - this is like setting an agenda for issues to be raised with audiences.
Oppositional Readings:
- Audiences reject the way the narrative is constructed, question & challenge the points of view implied.
Negotiated Readings: - Audiences partially accept the way the narrative is constructed but can see both points of view the dominant and oppositional readings.
Aberrant Readings: Is an additional interpretation: where the text is read in a deviant & largely unanticipated manner, the preferred reading not being recognised at all.

Band Brand
When thinking about the branding of Bacci + Filter as real media artists, we looked for inspiration in the form of the solo artist Example; we particularly liked his quirky, creative and highly edited music videos, his common ground with young people in Britain and his general take and development on his genre. As we feel that the genre linked with artists such as Example comes across as the type of genre suited to our own song choice, we are planning to conform to certain aspects of other real media texts like Example, whereby we will create an upbeat, creative video, magazine advert and digipak that will attract a similar type of audience. As a joint decision, we also agreed that as an opposition, we wanted our brand to represent our band as a dominating female group - who could also be just as, if not more, quirky and creative; also dressing in hoodies and jeans, as other popular artists like Example.

Voyeurism
Voyeurism
Definition - When there is an element within the video of the character watching themselves.
This is a very common element found within a wide variety of music videos over the years, a prime example being found within the most recent video uploaded by the Bombay Bicycle Club. Myself and Mollie particularly like this technique and plan to include a television in our music video with footage of ourselves placed within.

Possible Video Ending
To add to the sense of voyeurism in our video - as we will most likely begin the video starting to record ourselves -, there is a strong possibility we could utilise the 'test card' image used on television broadcasts in the 80's; in order to make this idea more original to our group, the image could be edited so that the picture within will be more personalised to the characters in our music video.

Camera shot idea
Inception
Myself and Mollie have recently been incredibly inspired by the following scene from the film Inception; we feel the sudden slow motion shot is very effective and would love to create our own type of slow motion shot using water. Although within this scene, the serious atmosphere surrounding the shot adds to it's effectiveness, we believe we can bring a comedic element to a shot such as this within our music video.

Narrative
Within the original music video to Down with the Trumpets the two main male characters continuously bring comedic value throughout - inspired by this, myself and Mollie feel we can similarly bring our own comedic style to the song, although containing the twist of us both being females.
Our current idea:
- Millie the serious rapper of the pair
- Mollie the funny, unreliable character messing around

Our Song Decision
Myself and Mollie have now come to the decision that we will be creating a music video for the song Down with the Trumpets by the Rizzle Kicks! We've gone with this choice as it would be nice to move away from the more depressing, serious genre choice we went with in AS - along with the fact we believe us as a pair could pull off a comical video with an upbeat genre!
Here are the guys we are up against for comedic value..

Lyrics
Below are the lyrics within the two music choices we haven't yet decided upon and are torn between..
Kings of Leon - Revelry:
What a night for a dance, you know I'm a dancing machine
With a fire in my bones and the sweet taste of kerosene
I get lost in the night so high I don't want to come down
To face the loss of the good thing that I've found
In the dark of the night I could hear you calling my name
With the hardest of hearts I still feel full of pain
So I drink and I smoke and I ask you if you're ever around
Even though it was me who drove us right in the ground
See the time we shared it was precious to me
But all the while I was dreaming of revelry
Born to run, baby run like a stream down a mountainside
[From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/k/kings-of-leon-lyrics/revelry-lyrics.html]
With the wind in my back I don't ever even bat an eye
Just know it was you all along who had a hold of my heart
But the demon and me were the best of friends from the start
So the time we shared it was precious to me
All the while I was dreaming of revelry
Dreaming of revelry
And I told myself boy away you go, it rained so hard it felt like snow
Everything came tumbling down on me
In the back of the woods in the dark of the night
Paleness of the old moonlight everything just felt so incomplete
Dreaming of revelry
Dreaming of revelry
Dreaming of revelry
Dreaming of revelry
Rizzle Kicks - Down with the Trumpets:
Yo, you might hear me make a racket like Wilson
Cause I love summer no Rachel Bilson (YES)
The winter will come,
We just have parties inside it's still fun,
(We're jammin') pump this (We're bangin'),
Chase your boyfriend let's 'av him,
We're rowdy, girls make our judgement cloudy,
but when the sun comes up we're still alcys,
We don't wanna be lowsy, or shameless,
but we're running round like we're brainless,
now I've got grass stains on my brand new white trainers
(ON MY BRAND NEW WHITE TRAINERS)
Ummmm... I know a few guys hate us,
they're as compelling as neighbours so laters,
it's blaters we've got our own sound, you know now,
so go wild and get hosed down, n-no no
Chorus
YEAH YEAH
Let's get down with the trumpets (x4)
WHAT
Let's get down with the down with the (x3)
YEAH YEAH
Let's get down with the trumpets
When I get down,
I get respect now,
and when our tunes drops,
you know it makes your head bounce,
yeah I move with the flow,
and when I enter the room it shows,
I move sick (WHEN I DANCE)
then chicks (WANNA DANCE)
move in and move quick (WHEN I DANCE)
at risk (WHEN I DANCE)
just be careful you don't lose your chick (WHEN I DANCE)

that might just happen,
so listen deep,
stick with your madame,
or she might just leave
CHORUS
YEAH YEAH
Let's get down with the trumpets (x4)

Let's get down with the down with the (x3)
YEAH YEAH
Let's get down with the trumpets
Ummm... how much sound from the brass to the air,
will it take, to put your bras in the air? (PARDON ME THERE)
just don't pretend that,
if I wasn't older you wouldn't wanna dance with me yeaaah
you're the last of my fears,
I was top boy of the class in my year,
well not really but I was half way there,
and I coulda been the headmaster so yeah
got vibes and charisma (lighter and rizla)
baccy and filter (shine for me mister)
I want the sun to (SH-I-I-INE)
till I'm looking at a bright blue (SKY-Y-Y)
yes, and we drop it like anvils,
bring your whole crew to a stand still, still,
stick us on at clubs and I
guarantee that no body would stand still
CHORUS
YEAH YEAH

Possible Choices
Kings of Leon - Revelry
Good Points:
- Is without official music video
- Is not a widely known song of the band (unlike Sex on Fire etc)
- Could easily support a narrative
Bad Points
- Largely famous band
- Male voice
- Limited to one particular genre
Rizzle Kicks - Down with the Trumpets
Good Points
- Upbeat music
- Rizzle Kicks are not widely known of (as of yet)
- Contains a mixing of genres
Bad Points
- Male singers
- Hard not to follow the official music video
- Could possibly be difficult to create a narrative from the song
The Fray - How to Save a Life
Good Points
- Could easily hold a narrative
- Would continue the theme set by ourselves in our AS project
- Nice introduction
Bad Points
- Male singer
- Hugely known song/video
- Would be difficult to not follow the cliche of the song lyrics

Inspiration
Here is a video I love at the moment; I love the choppy editing, the black and white contrast, the simplicity against the complexity and the positioning of each piece of footage. The video also includes an astounding, record breaking number of frames per second!
Introductory Lesson
As an introductory lesson, the media group looked at all the different possible themes that separate music videos from one another. When discussing videos that are controversial we found prime examples in Tyler the Creator's 'Yonkers' and Gaga's 'Born this Way'; the reason for these videos to be labelled as controversial is reflected by the explicit and highly unusual shots used. We also discussed the possible reasoning behind artists decisions to create videos this controversial, and one main reason would be to publicise the brand of the artist to the highest degree to entice interest and a wide range of audience.. whilst also making money of course!
